Conversion of PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel, etc. weird characters or failing

Sometimes when you upload a PDF, Word, PowerPoint (Power Point), Publisher, Excel, or other special file type, our system will be unable to determine the special Fonts used, or special Clipart used within the file.

This is because we must convert these special files into a file format the media player and signage system understand natively. Typically we convert them to a picture format like JPG, PNG, GIF, or BMP.

This will sometimes cause the file to either show as corrupted (See more about Corrupted Files here: Adaptive Module (Custom Slideshow Module) show "Possible File Issue" or what is a Corrupt Slide?)

Or it will show weird characters in your converted file (squares, rectangles, question marks, hearts, etc).

Recommended fixes
1) If using an application that has an option to save as a JPG or image format, save the file in this format then upload. This way you'll be able to retain all your special clip art and fonts and settings.

2) Convert to PDF first. PDF is more versatile than PowerPoint, Word, Publisher, Excel, etc. If you are uploading a Word file for instance, we recommend saving it as a PDF first. You'll have a higher likelihood of not having corrupted characters this way.

3) Your last option is to change your fonts within your file to a common font like Arial, Times New Roman, Veranda, Lato, etc. Also convert clip art and special image formatting to basic image embedding. Basically the more specialized settings you make to a file, the more likely the file will not convert exactly as you'd expect.
